If you haven’t read my blog post on the reality of a graduate please go check it out My version, so you know that I also opened that to my fellow readers, hence, this guest post from Asia.

I graduated from college with a BFA in photography back in 2015. At that time I was excited to get out in the real world but terrified of what would happen next. My first concern was to find a job because in 6 months those student loans would be banging down my door.
A few months before graduating, I snagged an internship at a startup magazine. It was my dream to work for a magazine so I was thrilled. I worked as their social media manager as well as one of their photojournalists. I wrote articles every two weeks that were published and slowly increased their following. I thought I was one of the lucky ones.
A few months later, something happened and the magazine flopped. I couldn’t believe it. How did I lose my dream job already!? Since then I had a slew of jobs from a receptionist to retail. I did what I needed to do to survive so all my dreams were on the back burner. I thought I was a failure and had no idea where to turn next. I slipped in and out of depression not knowing how to find a job that made me happy.
In 2017 I made the realization that I didn’t want to freelance as a photographer so I needed a backup plan. I love taking pictures for myself but when it comes to others, I hated it. I decided to turn to my second love, graphic design. I began my journey to my second degree and have fallen in love with it.
In 2015 I wouldn’t have believed you if you said in three years you’ll want to be a designer and have a few g’s in your bank account. I’ve come so far since graduating with the many many downs but relief filling ups. Your life plan never works out the way you want it to but it’s up to you to keep going.
To all recent and upcoming grads: don’t freak out. You’re not alone if you’re completely clueless about what comes next. Just keep doing what you love and good things will come. Your hard will way pay off.
FYI: I have a YouTube Channel now and if you want to check me out click here. Please feel free to send me your own stories doesn’t have to be about being a graduate alone, as long as it will inspire, motivate someone out there I will post it Contact Me
