The Shard Experience – Hutong Restaurant

Hello my lovelies, hope you are well? 🙂

If you read my last blog post you will know that my birthday was last month Click here  to catch up ;).  I decided to treat myself and I reserve a table at the Hutong restaurant at The Shard in London.

If you know me well enough, you know I love Chinese food; I mean my blog name is half Chinese plus my name lol. Reservation for the Hutong restaurant was pretty easy as I booked online but I got the time and date I wanted by booking 3 weeks ahead of time. Although, they do take your debit or credit card detail’s and they charge you £1 which will bounce back so don’t worry. Few days prior to my reservation date, I got an email saying if I cancel or I am 20 minutes late I get charge £25 which I think was ridiculous as I am now obliged to visit on time.

I went with my sister as we were shooting some looks on that day so it kind of worked perfectly, therefore have a nice evening meal after a long day of shooting was great. We got there on time went through security check’s which is similar to airport check’s, bizarre right? The restaurant was on the 33rd floor so we were both pretty excited to see the city view of London. We got to the reception and they checked our name’s on the list and took us to our table, I was quite disappointed that we didn’t get a table next to the window but oh well #rollingmyeyes.

There were two menu, one was a set menu (starter and main) which was £35 per head and order was for minimum 2 people. The other menu has more variety of starter’s and main’s with single pricing each which was what I went for as I can be very picky. We ordered 2 starter’s of the dumplings and spring rolls, I personally didn’t like the dumpling’s. We also ordered 3 special fried/Singapore rice don’t ask why I ordered three, let just say I got carried away.

Comment below if you are one of those people that goes somewhere new and you just don’t have a stop button in terms of ordering.

I ordered one non-alcoholic Hutong mojito which to me tasted more like lemonade with loads of Ice and when my sister saw how small the glass cup was so she went for tap water instead. Lets just say the drinks are not worth the price hehe but its The shard so I don’t expect less.  I wanted to try their ribs as well but my sister was like our table is too full so lets finish this first and if we are still hungry we can order them.

On a scale of 1-10, I can say the food is pretty decent (6/10) as I have tried much better Chinese but the view is worth it so I will make it 9/10 in terms of the experience. Staff were very welcoming and all our order arrived within 15 minutes which was good. We  were there for 2 hour’s and the restaurant kitchen close at 4:30pm so if you reserve for 3:30 like I did you have 1 hour to get all your food ordered. We spent about £90 on food and drinks, be aware that they include tips in there bills which I later found out that you can decline tips.
